Orenco Gardens Neighborhood Watch Committee (NHWC) Meeting Minutes

Date: Monday, January 23, 2006

Time: 7:30pm-8:30pm

Attendees: Shaun, Susan, Tim, Connie, Sue, Aysegul

Signs

The signs have been approved and Shaun will put a request in with the new property manager who replaced Christine, Wes Finchum.

• Park sign stating hours of “dawn to dusk” for the park with the basketball court. Standard Parks & Rec style sign.
• NHW Signs from Hillsboro Police will be the standard Boris the Burgler signs, 18x24, reflective aluminum to be placed on existing posts.
• The price for the signs is $31 each and we will be ordering 6 signs to be located as follows:
• Entrance at Birch
• Entrance at Alder
• Entrance at Dogwood
• Entrance at Orenco Gardens Parkway
• Entrance at Chestnut
• The Park with the basketball court

Speed Radar Trailer

Shaun has requested another trailer to be set up and also radar gun at stop sign on Retford.

Phone Tree

Shaun will send out the blank phone tree and team will continue to complete information. Susan will update the master and send to team.

Debrief on meeting with HPD Liaison

Janae Davis-Saunders represented the HPD. Her presentation covered steps to a safe community, security tips, what is a neighborhood watch, what is suspicious and teaching your community how to report a crime. It was an informative presentation and the team felt it worthwhile to do a similar presentation at one of the HOA meetings.

Lights near Mailboxes on park area of Birch Street

Some residents requested lighting near the mailboxes facing the trees on Birch Street, near the apartment complex. Solar lights may be a cost effective solution. NHWC members to bring forth at next HOA meeting.

Future educational training topics

The group brainstormed ideas for future training topics including fraud and identity theft, dealing with solicitors, drug and gang activity. It was also suggested to bring the HPD Liaison back to one of the HOA meetings to provide the presentation for all neighborhood attendees.

Action Items:

• Shaun – follow up on sign request in with the new property manager, Wes Finchum.
• Shaun – confirm presentation for next meeting on fraud and identity theft.
• Susan – investigate partnering with the social committee on the national night out and neighborhood directory.
• Susan – send out update phone tree to team.
• Shaun – get clarification on who we go to for enforcement of CC&R’s.
• Shaun – provide crime stats at next meeting.
• Shaun – send out blank phone tree document to team.
• Shuan – send posting to website announcing fraud training and when to call 911 vs non-emergency numbers.
• Aysegul – submit idea for “What’s new section” on website.
